What is the Reventón Trail?
The Reventón Trail was launched in 2011 and traditionally takes place in spring in the municipality of El Paso – the green heart of the island of La Palma. The event has now become a permanent fixture in the national and international trail running calendar. Thanks to its proximity to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park and the spectacular high-altitude paths such as the Camino de la Cumbre, the race offers ideal conditions for mountain and trail runners.

Description
The main event of the Reventón El Paso is the traditional – and feared – marathon. It offers participants a spectacular variety of scenic and technical contrasts. On the mountain ridges, demanding, technical sections await, while in the lower areas, faster segments dominate. The route first leads through typical Canarian pine forests, then transitions into impressive volcanic landscapes that offer a completely different visual experience. A standout highlight: the course runs through the Caldera de Taburiente National Park and the Cumbre Vieja Nature Park – just a few meters from the area of the most recent volcanic eruption at Tajogaite.
Reventón Classic
The Reventón Classic is the most traditional and popular course of the Reventón El Paso – with a unique feature: the entire ascent is tackled in the first part of the race.

After reaching over 1.400 meters in elevation, the course continues to its highest point at the Pista de la Hilera and on to Refugio del Pilar. The descent follows the PR LP 14 hiking trail, where the route connects with the Pista de Macorí and leads into the Barranco de la Pernada gorge. After passing Llano de las Cuevas, the route heads straight to the finish line.
Reventón Sprint
Ideal for ambitious recreational runners or as an introduction to trail running. The route partially follows the same paths as the longer distances.

This leads runners directly to the Ermita de la Virgen in the Valencia area.

Subida a las Estrellas (Vertical Run)
The vertical run is the newest discipline of Reventón El Paso and will take place on the evening of March 27, 2026. Since its debut in 2018, it has quickly become one of the most demanding and fascinating races of the entire event – with unique characteristics that make it truly special.

Total descent: 10 m
Minimum altitude: 816 m
Maximum altitude: 1.429 m
Maximum time: 1,5 hours
Start: Virgin del Pino
Finish: El Reventón
Participant limit: 100
Description
The race takes place under La Palma’s spectacular night sky – one of the most impressive in the world – and under the guidelines of the Starlight Foundation. In fact, this event was a pioneer: it was the first race to receive the foundation’s official sports certification. This seal confirms the La Palma mountain run’s commitment to protecting the night sky, promoting astronomy, and supporting the Starlight movement. The course runs along an almost vertical section of just over two kilometers – a challenge that gives the vertical run its name. It is the famous and feared climb of El Reventón: a steep ascent beginning near the Ermita del Pino de la Virgen and ending at the La Hilera forest trail.
