The Museo Naval in Santa Cruz de La Palma is a fascinating museum entirely dedicated to the island’s maritime history and its strong connection to seafaring. It is located inside the historic Barco de la Virgen, an impressive replica of the caravel Santa María, anchored at the emblematic Plaza de la Alameda. Here, visitors can discover nautical instruments, historic sea charts, ship models, and documents illustrating the importance of La Palma’s maritime activity from the island’s conquest in the 15th century to modern times. The Museo Naval offers an exciting insight into La Palma’s eventful past as an important Atlantic port and is a highlight for culture and history enthusiasts. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (October – June) and from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm (July – September); on December 24, 31 and January 5 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The museum is closed on December 25, January 1 and January 6.
