ES Those who want to go to the sea can reach the most beautiful beaches of Valle Gran Rey in about 20 minutes: the fine sandy Playa de La Calera, the alternative Playa del Inglés, and the child-friendly bay Charco del Conde. The harbor of Vueltas with cafés and boat trips for whale watching is also worth a visit.
There are other worthwhile excursions in the surrounding area: the Mirador de César Manrique with spectacular panoramic views, or the pottery village El Cercado, known for handmade ceramics. Although there is hardly any tourist infrastructure in El Retamal itself, you’ll find small restaurants and shops in the surrounding villages offering local products such as palm honey, goat cheese, and fresh fruit.
